Description

The aim of this tour is to give guests the opportunity to discover the south-east of the country where, even nowadays, there are interesting places that escaped to mass tourism.

This tour is rather designed for backpack travellers who are willing to live right in the village.

 -  the Niokolo Koba wild life reserve

  -  Bedicks and Bassaris (Hikers will love our tracks to)

  -  the Saloum Islands and the Niominka country lazing in the mangrove

  -  around the “Pink Lake”

  -  in Dakar and Goree Island



 

 

14 days and 13 nights

Itinerary

DAY I

Arrival day, in Dakar you will meet our team at the airport to lead you to the bus and tour guide for a transfer to your hotel : Ganalé or similar

DAY II

Early wake up and departure towards the south of Senegal.

A first stop is planned at Kaolack for breakfast and we continue our way to the south

Brief stop to the stone circles and Fulani village visits.

Arrival at Tamabacounda. Check in hotel and lunch.

City tour of Tambacounda in the afternoon: railway station the market place…

Back to hotel dinner and overnight.

DAY III

Wake up and breakfast.

Short tour to the gold washers on our way to Kédougou. These are villagers who adopted as second activity to earn a living after rainy season gold washing. Their means are very old fashionned : they dig a hole in unsafe conditions  work and fill out their bowl with mud in which glitters gold powder. but chance of getting buried are bigger that the money on can make.

Arrival at Kédougou.

Check in bedik and lunch.

And later before the afternoon city tour of Kedougou: the market place, the mosque, the ferry boat to the right side of the Gambia river to visit villages on that side

Back to the hotel dinner and overnight.

Day IV

Wake up and breakfast.  

Leave for Iwol Bedik village.

Iwol is the main village of the BEDIKS. It’s located on top of the hills and it’s not accessible but by a steep track for 45 mn.

Bediks kept their traditions unviolated.

Tour the village and pay courtesy visit to the chief who will introduce us to their usages, rules and main activities of the villagers.

Tour to the church and school of the village.

Leave the village and check in Ibel camp.

Lunch.  

Afternoon tour of  Bandafassi village and the marble mine  of  Ibel.

Dinner and overnight

Day V

Wake up and breakfast. 

Leave Ibel village for Afia.

Arrival and check in Afia camp.

Free in the village to give opportunity to exchange with villagers and household activities.

Lunch.

Departure for Segou waterfalls

Relax around the pool.

Back to the camp.

Dinner and ovrenight.

Day VI

Wake up and breakfast.

Leave Afia for Dindifello.

Check in Dindifello camp.

Tour to Dandé Fulani village.

Dande is a village over the hill where from flow the waterfalls. We’ll visit the source  and the caves where natives used to mine sulphur and salpetre to make gunpowder.

Back to the camp and lunch.

In the afternoon relax around the waterfalls of Dindifello.

Dinner and overnight

DAY VII

Early wake up and breakfast.            

Leave Dindifello for lunch at Mako.

Mako camp is on the riverside and gives a nice view over the river to observe hippos.

After lunch, way on to Niokolo Koba wildlife reserve.

Check in Simenti camp and free at the watchtower to observe warthogs and other animals at Simenti pond.

Dinner and overnight.

DAY VIII

Wake up and breakfast.

Leave the camp for a photo safari

Back to Simenti for lunch.    

In the afternoon boat tour on the Gambia river.

Dinner and overnight

DAY IX

Early wake up and breakfast to leave the wildlife reserve.  

Long day of transfer towards the north with a sotp at Kaolack for lunch.

Way on to Simal village.

Simal is a beautiful serer village  on the bolongo side with a typic camp.

Arrival and check in.

Dinner and overnight.

DAY X

Wake up and breakfast.  

In the accomodation at Simal camp are included several other activities: horse riding, village tour on horse cart or fishing.

Choose one of those activities for part of the day.

Lunch and afternoon is free for relaxation.

DAY XI

Wake up and breakfast.

Leave camp and by a bumpy dust road to join Fadjout island. Some minutes on that road stop to see the most importnat baobab tree of Senegal (29 meters round)

Way on to Fadjouth.

At Joal village home village of First President of Senegal, tour this parents house which is a museum nowadays.

Lunch at Finio restaurant.

Board on pirogue for a tour to Fadjouth shell-island and its cemetery.

Drive to Somone village.

Check in Bassari camp at la Somone village or similar

Dinner and overnight.

 DAY XII

Wake up and breafast

Tour to pink lake.  

4x4 drive around the lake to see the salt collectors and then visit Keur Youssou village, slalom over the sand dunes,relax on the beach (no swimming)

Lunch at Keur Salim and back to la Somone village.

Dinner and overnight

DAY XIII

Breakfast.

Day free : relaxation on the beach or stroll around la Somone village.

Lunch on you.

Dinner and overnight

DAY XIV

Wake up and breakfast.   

Early departure for a city tour of Dakar.

Tour different  sites of the city:  markets, independence drive, presidential Palace, Roman catholic cathedral, national assembly, the gate to the Millenium ….

Board on the ferry to Goree Island.

Lunch on the island.

Tour of the island: slave house, church, museums…

Back to Dakar city to finish the city tour.

Dinner  on you by the airport.

Departure Transfer.
